An immersive showcase for eBay products and services that uses storytelling, projection technology and physically moving screens.
New consumer behaviors, enabled by new technologies, are transforming retail commerce. eBay Inc. needed a new way to showcase how they can help retailers compete and win in this evolving landscape.
ESI Design worked with eBay to define its communications problem and develop a custom technology and media solution. ESI conceived and created the Digital Bay, an immersive theater that combines sophisticated projection technology, physically moving screens, displays and retail product. In this simulation environment, a guide leads visitors on a journey to multiple locations to demonstrate how eBay products connect buyers to sellers. The Digital Bay is highly flexible: Narratives can be created or changed to suit the needs of eBay’s staff.
The first story ESI produced for the system focused on the local retail experience and incorporated key eBay products, services, and customer benefits. It follows a young consumer as he goes from his home to the park to a retail store, making purchases along the way on his mobile device. The storyline ends with a business development–focused conclusion that helps customers understand how eBay’s solutions work together to enable connected commerce. This future-oriented tool will help eBay attract new customers for years to come in the evolving landscape of retail commerce.
