WORKTECH20: Firing Up Fandom In the Workplace

Posted October 5, 2020

Fans make the best employees because they serve as excellent brand ambassadors, bring unique insight, and work harder. But through the daily grind of work excitement fades, and employers must continually renew and reengage their employees’ fandom.

At WORKTECH20 North America, we’ll join our client Major League Baseball to look at how we created a digitally branded experience at MLB HQ in New York City that inspires lasting excitement for employees. We will also take a look at other digital branded environments that tap into the employee fan at eBay and WarnerMedia. WORKTECH20 is the virtual forum for all those involved in the future of work and the workplace as well as real estate, technology and innovation.

What to Expect: The Fan-Focused Workplace

Major League Baseball’s Gregg Klayman and ESI Design’s Stuart Fox will take you on a behind-the-scenes look at the design of MLB’s new headquarters in New York, exploring ideas for creating an office employees want to return to. Beyond swag and workplace perks, timeless design and branded digital experiences reunite employees with their passionate fandom, making the workplace a destination. We’ll also show examples of digital branded environments that tap into the employee fan at eBay and WarnerMedia. Attendees will walk away having seen a best-in-class example of workplace experience design, and understand workplace environment is more effective than perks or swag in keeping employees dedicated as fans and engaged as employees.

Meet the Speakers

Gregg Klayman, SVP Content and Product Strategy, MLB

Gregg has worked at MLB for 20 years, starting out in content/gaming, moving to Product Development for a decade, then back to content in 2018. He oversees a large content team responsible for content across MLB and all 30 team digital platforms. They produce more than 200 written pieces a day and populate hundreds of video clips through our sites. Gregg has lived in NYC his entire life, never owned a car, can’t ride a bike and fits many NYC stereotypes. He is married with two kids and a dog and lives on the Upper West Side.

Stuart Fox, Senior Content Designer, ESI Design

When Stuart Fox works on an ESI project, he isn’t just a writer, he’s a story designer. As familiar with digital storytelling as he is with words, as comfortable directing live action video as he is developing interactives, Stuart leverages every tool from his interdisciplinary experience to craft engaging, educational, emotional narratives. Prior to his work at ESI, Stuart worked as an exhibitions developer at Liberty Science Center and the American Museum of Natural History. Before that, he conducted research on the aerodynamics of pterosaur flight, appraised fossils for auction and organized the artifact collection at the Museum of Sex. As a journalist, he edited a science and technology newswire, wrote about the science and history of wine for Wine Spectator magazine, covered the New York City commercial real estate industry for Real Estate Weekly, and blogged for the American Institute of Physics.
